Position Overview: The Senior Education Coordinator serves the Union’s staff and members by fostering effective administrative procedures that ensure timely creation and smooth implementation of workshops, meetings and educational events; assists in delivery of educational programming; and ensures effective tracking and reporting of Department activities.
Job Responsibilities: He/She coordinates with the Director on the creation, implementation and evaluation of education programs; conducts workshops, authors curricula, mentors facilitators; and monitors office operations.
• Collaborate with Director and Department staff on program administration to meet department and organizational goals
• Collaborate with officers, organizers, staff, members and allied organizations to identify and meet leadership development needs
• Engage in program and curriculum development
• Organize and conduct a variety of educational events, including workshops for staff and members to develop as social justice facilitators
• Work with department staff to manage databases for workshop registration, attendance, evaluation and submit reports (Excel, Access)
• Work with departmental staffs, service committees and task forces linked to the Education Department
• Coordinate and supervise work of staff and interns as needed.
• Work with community partners and allies in delivery of educational programs and events when needed
REQUIREMENTS:
A combination of work and educational experiences is required
• Passionate about social and economic justice and the role of education in social change
• High School (or equivalent required). Associate’s, Bachelor Degree or advanced certificates welcomed. Indicate any certificates and/or additional degrees received
• 3 or more years of education, facilitation and curriculum development experience in labor, social justice, nonprofit and/or progressive contexts (knowledgeable about participatory, anti-oppression, popular education, and/or experiential learning approaches)
• 3 or more years in leadership role with projects and programs in labor or nonprofit context preferred.
• Excellent listening, speaking, reading and writing skills
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and work effectively in teams
• Flexibility and proactive problem solving attitude
• Computer proficiency and database skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Web research); ability to learn 1199 databases and web-based educational tools
• Valid driver’s license
• Ability to move boxes, flipcharts, and other workshop supplies as needed
• Ability to travel to five (5) states 1199SEIU represents and elsewhere as needed
• Ability to work long and irregular hours as needed
