AFSCME is hiring two Field Education Coordinators: one in the east (based in Pittsburgh or Boston) and one in the west (based in Los Angeles or Las Vegas). AFSCME represents 1.6 million members who work in the public service: social workers, teachers’ aides, sanitation workers, bus drivers, health care professionals, public safety workers, university staff, and many more.
The AFSCME Education Department ignites and fuels activism and leadership by creating a culture of collaborative learning; developing members, leaders and staff as educators and change agents; and using new technologies to expand the reach of our programs. The Field Education Coordinator is responsible for implementing this mission in assigned states.
AFSCME Field Education Coordinators design and conduct education programs on a wide range of union building topics. They create and modify curricula to meet the needs of specific locals, councils and campaigns. They connect education programs to AFSCME’s vision and priorities. They design and facilitate planning retreats and conferences. And they prepare union activists and staff to conduct training programs.
