The OD will be a key member of the OEA management team for purposes of ensuring a strong organizing strategy for all OEA strategic initiatives. The OD will work, collaboratively, with OEA Staff, Governance, Council and local leaders and members. S/he will coordinate and direct, collaborative teams that will focus on the development of systems, programs and organizational strategies that create a member-driven culture of organizing and advance the goals of OEA’s Strategic Action Plan. The OD will have significant statewide responsibilities for planning and implementing local, regional and statewide organizing campaigns and developing and delivering organizing trainings for leaders, members and staff that will support these campaigns. Working collaboratively with the Assistant Executive Director for Public Affairs and the Associate Executive Director for Advocacy and Affiliate Services, the OD will lead the development of field organizing strategy, systems and operations for OEA’s political campaigns. This is a statewide position that will require a great deal of travel and flexibility, including a number of overnights in the field. This position is grant-funded. Responsibilities: 1. Collaborate with the Assistant Executive Director for Public Affairs and the Associate Executive Director for Advocacy and Affiliate Services to develop and carry out comprehensive organizing strategies for all internal and external campaigns – including but not limited to issues, policies, politics, and bargaining. 2. Lead the development and implementation of field organizing strategy, systems and operations for OEA’s organizing campaigns. 3. Represent OEA in developing and coordinating field strategies and operations in statewide labor and labor-community coalition campaigns. Facilitate the creation and ongoing support of local organizing structures that build capacity, full member engagement and mobilization around identified local, regional and state issues. 4. Lead cross-Center and staff/member teams in the development and delivery of member and staff organizing training programs. 5. Working with the Associate Executive Director for Advocacy and Affiliate Services, direct the work of the OEA Organizing Coordinator with the OEA Statewide Organizing Task Force, ensuring that its work and goals are aligned with the OEA Strategic Action Plan. 6. Work with leaders and staff to develop organizing and action plans and assist in execution and review of these plans. 7. Develop and maintain systems for tracking and evaluating member engagement in campaigns/actions. 8. Provide regular written, verbal and electronic communications on OEA issue campaigns, organizing actions and training programs. 9. Assist in the coordination of State and National Programs and trainings with NEA and other State Affiliates where appropriate. 10. Other duties as assigned by the OEA Executive Director. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience; Master’s preferred. 2. 5+ years of proven lead/coordinator experience in member/grassroots organizing campaigns. 3. Strong experience in union, community and/or social justice organizing 4. Successful experience as a lead strategist in planning, setting and driving external field operations, working in a coalition environment. 5. Experience in field operations in political campaigns preferred. 6. 5+ years of experience and demonstrated success in multiple areas of member education and training. 7. Evidence of ability to function collaboratively with leaders, staff and coalition partners. 8. Strong skills in strategic thinking, goal-setting and action/campaign planning. 9. Commitment to member-driven and organizing union culture. 10. Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills. 11. Mastery of technologies that will advance program goals and member accessibility. 12. Track record of doing the hard-work necessary to get the job done at a high-level of expertise. 13. Strong self-starter with proven capacity to manage time effectively and work under pressure in a variety of settings and situations. 14. Valid driver’s license. Ability to drive for work-related purposes on a regular basis.
