The OC will be a key member of various staff and member-staff teams that will focus on the development of systems, programs and organizational strategies that create a member-driven culture of organizing and advance the goals of OEA’s Strategic action Plan. The OC will have significant statewide responsibilities for planning and implementing local, regional and statewide organizing campaigns and developing and delivering the dynamic organizing trainings for leaders, members and staff that will support these campaigns. The OC will work, collaboratively, with OEA Staff, Governance, Council and local leaders and members. The OC will be an active member of a cross-Center team that develops and supports OEA’s Powerful Locals Program. The OC will also have significant responsibility for developing and implementing coalition-building training and action at the local, regional and state levels, as well as representing OEA in various union, community and organizational coalitions. This is a statewide position that will require a great deal of travel and flexibility, including a number of overnights in the field. Responsibilities: 1. Facilitate the creation of local organizing structures that build capacity, full member engagement and mobilization around identified local and state issues. 2. Work with staff, statewide and local leaders to plan and implement local, regional and statewide organizing campaigns and in the assessment/review of these campaigns. 3. Work with the Director of Field and Campaign Organizing as lead staff with the OEA Statewide Organizing Task Force ensuring that its work and goals are aligned with the OEA Strategic Action Plan. 4. Be lead staff in developing and delivering local, regional and statewide member, leader and staff organizing trainings. 5. Actively participate in cross-Center and staff/member teams in the development and delivery of training programs for bargaining campaign organizing, political action organizing and educational policy and practice organizing 6. Participate in developing and delivering programs for the OEA Leadership Academy, Emerging Leaders program and New Member program. 7. Coordinate the training of any ‘cadre’ staff who is assigned to organizing at the local, regional and state levels. 8. Actively participate in collaborative staff-management teams to assess staff education and organizing training needs. 9. Develop and maintain systems for evaluating organizing education and training programs and campaigns/actions. 10. Track member participation in organizing education/training programs and campaigns/actions. 11. Develop and maintain a library of organizing training materials, techniques and models for OEA leaders, members and staff. 12. Provide regular written, verbal and electronic communications on OEA issue campaigns, organizing actions and training programs. 13. Assist in the coordination of State and National Programs and trainings with NEA and other State Affiliates where appropriate. 14. Represent the OEA, as assigned, in organizing campaigns with other unions and coalition partners. 15. Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Executive Director for Advocacy and Affiliate Services. Minimum Qualifications: 1. Bachelor’s degree or equivalent education/experience; Master’s preferred. 2. 5+ years of proven organizing experience, including union organizing campaigns. 3. Strong experience and demonstrated success in union, community, and/or social justice organizing. 4. 5+ years of experience and demonstrated success in multiple areas of organizational development, and training in the following areas: leadership development and team-building, new member organizing, internal member organizing, and community/coalition organizing. 5. Demonstrated experience and success in developing training programs and materials. 6. Experience and success as a trainer-of-trainers at all levels. 7. Evidence of ability to function collaboratively with leaders, staff and coalition partners. 8. Strong skills in strategic thinking, goal-setting and action planning. 9. Commitment to member-driven and organizing union culture. 10. Strong verbal, written, and electronic communication skills. 11. Mastery of technologies that will advance program goals and member accessibility. 12. Track record of doing the hard-work necessary to get the job done at a high-level of expertise. 13. Strong self-starter with proven capacity to manage time effectively and work under pressure in a variety of settings and situations. 14. Valid driver’s license. Ability to drive for work-related purposes on a regular basis.
