Job announcement: Assistant or Associate Professor in Urban Studies, School for Professional Services, City University of New York Faculty Vacancy Announcement The Joseph A. Murphy Institute for Worker Education and Labor Studies offers higher education programs for working adults and union members, and serves as a resource center to labor, academic, and community leaders seeking a deeper understanding of labor and urban issues. It is located in midtown Manhattan, with office, classroom, and library facilities. The School for Professional Studies (SPS), through the Murphy Institute, offers a 30-credit Master of Arts in Urban Studies, designed for students pursuing both scholarly and professional interests in the political, economic, and social dynamics of modern urban life. It offers a particular emphasis on urban problems, public policy, community organization, the urban workforce, the administration of public agencies, and the delivery of public services. SPS and the Murphy Institute are developing a B.A. in Urban and Community Studies. SPS currently seeks candidates for a tenure track position as Assistant or Associate Professor of Urban Studies. Responsibilities include teaching, scholarship, student advisement, program leadership, and School service. Qualifications The successful candidate will hold a Ph.D. in geography, sociology, political science, anthropology, American studies, urban planning or other relevant discipline, with scholarship related to urban studies, including urban politics, urban public policy, community studies, and urban planning. Also research interest in the urban working class experience and experience working with community, labor and other civic organizations.
