Who We Are For over 20 years Training for Change (TFC) has provided activist trainings for groups standing up for social, economic, and environmental justice through strategic nonviolence. We have led hundreds of workshops and trained thousands of people – from rank and file union members to interfaith coalitions for immigrant rights. Using our unique experiential approach, we create learning environments that provide practical tools and insights that activists can use, as well as opportunities for real growth, transformation, and empowerment. Position Summary The Communications & Development Coordinator will primarily help support a communications strategy that furthers TFC's relevance and impact with groups working on grassroots campaigns and movement building. This position will also support TFC's grassroots fundraising strategy, continuing our capacity to offer quality trainings. The Communications & Development Coordinator will work as part of a dedicated team with three other staff: a Director, an Administrative Coordinator and a Bookkeeper (who works remotely). Both Coordinators interact occasionally with the board members, contract staff, interns, volunteers and trainers who help Training for Change thrive. This Coordinator must be passionate about social justice work, be able to manage and track more than one project at a time (high functioning multi-taskers please apply), and be detail oriented. We welcome those with experience and/or an interest in learning how to sustain a small non-profit. Strong communication skills, flexibility and experience with self- supervision are important. Position Overview Communications: Coordinate a communications strategy that reflects to the public our success at training activist trainers using our methodology of Direct Education. Responsibilities include: - Design and edit outreach materials for our public programming i.e. our numerous Training of Trainers workshops, the Organizing Skills Institute, and the Judith C. Jones Fellowship for Trainers of Color; - Help write and edit the quarterly newsletter, blog, website content and other online communications including social media presence; - Further develop how to tell the story of Training for Change's impact on movement-building today and for the past two decades. Development: Increase the effectiveness of Training for Change's grassroots fundraising. Responsibilities include: - Coordinate our annual fundraiser (called the Thrive Drive). This includes at least one on-site fundraising event in Philadelphia. - With help from the Director & Board, write fundraising appeals and donor thanks you's; - Research grants and seek out foundations that may be interested in funding our internal capacity-building or external programming; - Maintain accurate database records of donor activity to measure progress toward goals; - Complete miscellaneous tasks such as write checks, check PO Box and other responsibilities. Qualifications - Excellent writing/editing and verbal communication skills; - Experience with and/or an ability to quickly learn grant research and/or writing; - Knowledge and successful use of social media tools i.e. Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, etc.; - A commitment to social justice that includes an ability to reflect on and talk about how grassroots power can effectively impact systems of oppression both systemically and personally; - A demonstrated commitment to diversity that honors difference of race, ethnicity, age, gender, sexual orientation, religion, ability and socio-economic circumstances; - Ability to bring creativity to sustaining a non-profit that is small, class conscious and anti-capitalist; - Values teamwork while being able to problem-solve independently; - A willingness to take direction and can give or receive feedback responsibly; - Experience with, or an ability to learn quickly; Drupal, CRM, Stripe, Paypal, Formstack and database management; - Have some familiarity with Training for Change and our programs; - The following additional areas of skill and experience are a bonus, but not required: grassroots fundraising, database management, attendance of a Training for Change workshop, Spanish fluency. Compensation & Schedule Position starts at $15.00/hour with a guarantee of 20 hrs/week on average. Specific work hours per week may vary according to time of year. This position is hourly.
